From November 24th to the 26th, 2025, China and the 10 ASEAN countries held the 50th Joint Working Group Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, or the DOC in Kunming, Yunnan. All parties had in-depth exchanges of views on issues such as the current situation in the South China Sea, the implementation of the DOC, and practical maritime cooperation, as well as advanced consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, or the COC. All parties agreed to continue to fully and effectively implement the DOC, deepen cooperation in marine environmental protection, scientific research, search and rescue, and other fields, accelerate consultations on the COC, strive to reach the COC at an early date, and jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.
