Sea turtles, often referred to as “living fossils,” are flagship and indicator species of marine ecosystems, holding significant ecological, scientific, and cultural value. In China, known sea turtle nesting sites are primarily located on remote islands across the Xisha, Nansha, and Zhongsha Islands, where sandy beaches remain relatively undisturbed. Among them, the Xisha Islands host the country's largest nesting grounds for green sea turtles. With continuous improvements to the marine ecological environment, several new nesting sites have been discovered this year. The number of sea turtle nests has also increased significantly compared to the same period last year.
