On July 21st, 2025, the Foreign Affairs Office of Hainan Province and the Association of participants of special economic zones of Kazakhstan "SezUnion", signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of friendly and cooperative relations for free trade zones and ports. This marks Hainan's first free trade zone (port) partnership in Central Asia, bringing the total number of global free trade zone (port) partners of the Hainan Free Trade Port to 41.
